www.solardave.com SolarDave: Please tell me about your solar panel system and how you saved some money? Adam Stevenson: The total of the system and materials was $22K. I ended up spending about another $1800 in permit fees and a structural engineer and $400 for an electrician, several hundred dollars for a guy to come help me out for the two afternoons he spent with me. Xcel (Energy) gave me $16538 rebate. Fix cost based on the number of kilowatts you are installing and has nothing to do …

Once the contractors helper showed up the owner of the license is deemed responsible for all the work as the law views the contractor now as the ‘supervisor’ regardless of what other contracts were drawn up. Homeowners in the eyes of the court are seen as ‘retards’ to be protected & are treated differently than a commercial enterprise doing biz with another commercial biz. This cheapskate homeowner would turn on ‘Steve’ as soon as it benefits him. + all the materials used cost planet more.
suck it. the guy has a point

Pretty sure the panels will pay for them self in about 2 – 2 1/2 years….Total cost was $7,237 calculating at about 300 a month
There is places to get good prices and cheap stuff if you can look in the right places…
Maintenance might depend were you live, My buddy hardly ever cleans his panels as they look clean always and we rarely get rain or snow or anything like that…
His batteries have been going strong and they are like 7 years old already…
What else would you maintenance?
the cost is like 12 year worth of a tripical electric bill…..not including battery maintance and replacement ….i dont see how your saving money

10 K…we spent 10K Cdn, our system is amazing. Hooked it right into the main power box….impressive.
We can run a washer or dryer, over, anything we want.
Why do you blame your local permits on Liberals? I live in SC and I can assure you it’s not a liberal area in any since of the word and guess what… check out the rules involved in SC solar projects… it’s a local issue not a liberal issue…check out San Fran and you’ll see what I mean….most liberal area in the world and guess what it’s the easiest cheapest area to install solar panels in the world….so maybe think before you speak!

Great you got your rebate in CA (2005) you only got full rebate (18K on a $38K system) if you used a contractor for 100% of the work. You get half ($9k) if you do it by your self so finding a contractor to share the labor under his lic. would be a rarity here in liberal union lobby land.
